Kelly Clarkson, the pop singer and host of “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” recently revealed that she won’t rule out spanking her children if they misbehave.
Clarkson shared her thoughts during a conversation with singer Jewel on her show, where they discussed parenting techniques.
“I don’t believe in humiliating or belittling a child,” Clarkson said. “However, I do believe in spanking when warranted.”
She went on to explain that she was spanked as a child and turned out fine, adding that she doesn’t want to completely rule it out as a disciplinary measure for her own children.
Clarkson is a mother of two children, daughter River Rose and son Remington Alexander, whom she shares with her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock.
The singer also talked about the importance of setting boundaries and having consequences for misbehavior, but stressed that she wants her children to understand why their actions were wrong instead of just punishing them.
“I want to explain things and understand things,” Clarkson said. “I want to teach them and not just punish them.”
Despite her comments, Clarkson noted that she hasn’t had to resort to spanking yet and hopes that she never will.
The discussion on spanking as a disciplinary measure for children is a controversial one, with some parents believing it’s an effective tool while others argue it can lead to negative outcomes.
Ultimately, Clarkson’s parenting decisions are her own, and she expressed her belief that each parent has to make their own choices on how to raise their children.
“I think every parent has to do what’s best for them and what’s best for their family,” she said. “We’re all just trying to figure it out.”
